It is a totally new collection of houses from Romania, built by lesser or better known architects. Álvaro Siza. 54 Projects

This catalog-album features all the projects in the monographical exhibition "Alvaro Siza. 54 Projects", organized in Bucharest, from july to august 2008 by igloo media, with the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest. The book follows the concept of the exhibition curated by architect Carlos Castanheira: architecture is shown in all its forms, from sketches and drawings - so cherished by Siza - to elaborate plans and the buildings themselves, captured in photographs, not forsaking the descriptive or technical writings. Through carefully planned graphics, the book captures the diversity of the projects of Alvaro Siza, in size as well as function, and their minimalist character, that manages to avoid abstraction, inspiring serenity and force, their mathematical elegance and their unusual sensitivity. It's a book that belongs on the shelves of anyone who is interested in the quality of built space and in architectural common sense, a testimony for the career of an architect who built his projects with passion and discretion, revolutionizing contemporary architecture.

Raul Egon Lebel. A Century of Colour

The first album in the igloo art series is the result of the retrospective exhibition dedicated to Raul Egon Lebel at the Sutu Palace, in October 2007, which brought the painter's work once again in the attention of the Romanian art world. His paintings reveal a mature artist, who dared to go further than his era's conventions, who showed a special interest for elements of artistic theory and an outstanding sense of colour. The vibrant chromatics of his paintings, the careful structuring of the compositions - which, during the last years of his life, was built on strict mathematical principles of colour display - the geometrical dynamism and the energy transmitted by his works persuaded contemporary art critics to acknowledge his real value and let him take up his proper place in the context of Romanian culture.

    Offices in Romania

After homes and interiors, this third book in the igloo best series focuses on office buildings, results of the most spectacular Romanian urban architecture program after 1990. Functional simplicity, economical stakes and expressive potential, the latter due mostly to the evolution of technology during the last few years, have turned office buildings into a very interesting subject for architects and their clients alike.

Cule. Boyar Fortified Houses in Romania

Cule. Boyar Fortified Houses in Romania marks the debut of the igloo heritage collection and is the first album on the national book market to reunite in its pages one of the most interesting examples of private architecture in Romania. It includes buildings that have recently been considered for inclusion on the list of UNESCO's world monuments. The "cule" are fortified houses whose name comes from the Turkish word "kule", signifying "tower". They were built by the boyars to serve as defense against Turkish attacks. Such houses were built mostly in Oltenia and western Muntenia, but out of the dozens, maybe thousands of "cule", only 18 are still standing today. Not having had the chance of being turned into museums, half of them are now in ruin.
