The latest volume in the iglooprofil collection, Liviu Ciulei. With thoughts and images documents one of the most interesting career in Romanian theatre and film: Liviu Ciulei's work as a scenographer, and theatre and film director over more than 50 years. Half a century of theatre takes place in over 300 pages of irreproachable graphics, illustrative material (mostly in colour) and texts signed by Liviu Ciulei and his lifetime collaborator, Mihai Lupu. Beyond the documentation of an exceptional career, the volume presents the Romanian theatre world, with its glory days (the final years before the onset of Communism), with both the censorship period and the opening towards the west (in the '70), with its legendary actors, with the theatres and audiences of the time. A book the more important as most of the documented shows don't exist in any film archive, be it private or public, the photographs and sketches in the book being the only evidence of creative acts still held high by international specialists in the field. One chapter is dedicated to Liviu Ciulei's work as an architect, containing his sketches from the '60s and '70s for the modernization of several Romanian theatres.
