project | Blits, Rotterdam

When, in 1999, he innaugurated, in collaboration with Droog Design, a "five star knock down bird restaurant" - a porcelain plate, covered by a roof of recycled plastic, the whole installation being meant for serving birds - something seemed
to announce the interest of young Marcel Wanders for designing a stage-like restaurant.

Blits Rotterdam, the theatrical restaurant, is the result of a planning process that took place in a building dating from 1989, projected by Francine Houben / Studio Mecanoo and located on the bank of the river Maas. The privileged location and the panoramic view offered by the glass pavilion, as well as the careful planning of the terraced interior are all aspects that turn Blits into a charming spot. Each of the terraces, joined by a meandering platform clad entirely in wood, is dedicated to a precis moment of the culinary ritual: brunch, lunch, dinner, late night.

profile | Arquitectonica

After the completion of his architectural studies at Princeton University, Bernardo Fort-Brescia received his Master's Degree from Harvard and decided to open his own office, while continuing to teach. A professor at the Harvard School of Urban Design, Fort-Brescia teaches and holds conferences in many universities all around the world, and his works are featured in prestigious exhibitions. The career of his associate, Laurinda Spear, has had the same evolution. After studying at the Universities of Brown and Columbia, she decided to combine architectural practice with academic teaching.

Promoting a unconventional modernism, that is strong, abstract and technology-based, but, at the same time, playful and even a bit romantic, their office, Arquitectonica has gradually become one of the strongest architectural offices in the world. Its main headquarters are in Miami and New York, with local offices in Los Angeles, Paris,
Madrid, Dubai, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Manila, Lima and Sao Paolo.

interior | New urban classic

The original space has been acted upon in a radical manner. All of the separating walls were demolished and a new partition was made. The apartment was divided into three areas: the guest area, including the living room and the kitchen, the sleeping area and the work area.

interview | Radu Teaca

A 1987 graduate of "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism, manager of the Artline office, architect Radu Teaca believes his best features are "...vigilance, tension, challenge, complexity, mediation, coherence...", all present in his works, be they of architecture or design.

"I believe it's very important to have an inquiring personality, professionally speaking, to search constantly, to look and see what's going on. It's very important for a young architecture student, to be able to make a choice as early as possible,
to find your own way, but, in order to make a choice, you must be acquainted with the architectural phenomenon, to understand it."
