A good location such as this terrain with private proprietors has found an innovator rather quick. Over the urban-volumetric ground exploration (how big, how tall, how close to the neighbors) and of the implementation of trust by the local planner within the foreign investor we have followed, among other things, on a screen in Piata Victoriei, in the rain, standing, the marking of a goal by Dan Petrescu (player for Chelsea), the fullback of the architect?s national team, in the English gate of the investor, Robert Neale. After the match we socialized on the streets of Bucharest, in the euphoria of our victory. A visit to London in order to see on the spot the style of the office buildings the Robert saw beides the live watching which cleared us on the way to see the same thing in different ways (the office comparing architecture) lead us the following day to different parties.

Proprietor of this habitation space, architect Doru Frolu has imprinted the frame with an original vision in the choice of the furnishing and particularly of the style and placing of the furniture – a mixture of authentic classic with very modern. Such a stylistic association has been for long time now considered ‘inadequate’, disturbingly unconventional, although lines up naturally with the spirit of the time, of the contemporary residences. The resulted decorative effect, very interesting, communicates an elaborate and consistent perception of the act of habitation – ludic spirit, refinement. The furnishings and furniture pieces, chosen justly and with inspiration, imprint a surprising functional and decorative effect – satisfactory enough not to require many other objects that are purely decorative to populate the apartment in order to color it and personalize it, most probably making it too crowded.

The theme of the project was a bit bizarre. In a dismountable warehouse, in Mamaia, on the lakeshore, (the mounting was performed in 2 weeks), we had to find a simple solution, of effect, that could be dismountable when the warehouse would be moving, in the winter, to the mountain side. Also, the visual and stylistic link with the ‘Cuando’ bar in Bucharest had to be respected, having the same proprietor, projected and made also by our company. We amused ourselves, naming the work ‘Cuando’ in the mountain side and at sea. The conspicuously hi-tech, cold, metallic style is warmed up by the white light of the illuminators, (the design of the illuminators has also been performed by Twins Design, of perforated tin and mirror) and the triangular canvas, gracious, different in line, of a white-yellow color, which are colored differently by the central spotlights, placed on the well-known three-dimensional bars.

interview | Talking to Viorel Hurduc
The architect Viorel Hurduc is the president of the Territorial affiliation of the Architects’ Order of Romania. A few weeks ago, the habitat editors were in his office in order to start a dialogue about this new professional body of the architects. Here are, in a brief version, the most important arguments about what it is and what the Order of the Architects of Romania is proposing to do. ‘We propose a periodic program of appearing in the press, in order to communicate to those interested, the entire variety of the professional missions that the architects can fulfill. On the other hand, the Architects’ Order of Romania wishes to become the initiator of the professional exercises of architects in the field of urbanism and territory planning, organizing architecture and urbanism contests, or to determine their organization. As far as the Bucharest territorial affiliation is concerned, we intend to become the primary partner of all the capital’s city halls, inviting all the architects members of the affiliation, to participate with projects for the areas foreseen by the administration of the city of Bucharest’.
