architecture | About habitation and contrast

Architect Mihai Raicu is simple and direct, a construction yard kind of guy, as he defines himself. Speaking with him, I have tried to decipher how the construction yard turns to poetry. Or vice versa. Because he is a man of contrasts, or at least this is the way his creation recommends him. The beneficiaries a young and growing family wanted a real house, truer than the tormented communist residence and the tepidities of a doubtful taste that appeared after December. Apart from that, they gave a ?free hand? to the architect. How free? Very free. Open, modern, in touch with the latest tendencies of architecture, they preferred not to express any opinion. But to trust. The architect, who suggested an inedited space, surprising, original. The sources of this are, first of all, the materials, the designer?s main weapon.

architecture | The second residence or the house with an exemplarily planted braced framework

The client resumed to requesting the essential: I want a wooden house, which I will use temporarily, from where I could see equally the lake and the forest and which would have certain building limits for the living room and the main bedroom. The history of the project is concentrated in two years. The theme has been launched in 1999 and at the same time the construction started. The house has been finished in 2001. The residence is composed of two registers: ground floor and garret. On the ground floor are chained in the direction of access the garrages in the surface and the entrance. Then the course unveils the daily utilities: living room, bar and kitchen. Also on the ground floor, with an inedited approach of the servant bathroom, a bedroom is also placed. The garret concentrates exclusively the night area. Architect Adrian Balasoiu evaluates, rightfully, the performance of ?lifting? a house only a month after seeing the sketch idea through the noun ?challenge?.

architecture | Talking to the director Alexandru Darie

The project for the rearrangement of the Bulandra Theater has been started by my predecessor, Mr. Stefan Iordanescu. He took advantage of a change of direction for the city's culture, when another person came along ? Miss Oana Turbatu who did an extraordinary thing: The General City Hall started allocating funds for culture, it was for the first time when, after many years, the money were there. As far as I know, one of the reasons for this dismissal was that the money foreseen were not spent in an efficient manner and as proof for that stands the space, still unfinished. Along with my entering the scene, things were kind of stuck in a particular area. It is one of the reasons for which, for an example, we still don?t have chairs in the room, they will show up before the start of the theatrical season. The office part, the area of the actors cabins did't matter, so they weren?t foreseen in any kind of plan and to me it seemed ridiculous for the public to benefit of the beauty of such a space and the actors, those who serve and bring the public here, to have nothing, not even some simple showers, so they could, after they play, to rid of the tiredness of the show. Together with Arch. Octavian Neculai who signs the arrangement of this theatrical space we resumed the discussions and reached the conclusion that we must attack the cabins that I was speaking of earlier as well as the offices where we were to receive our guests from abroad, people from Romania, directors, scenographers, important actors. This is where we were. A work started and unfinished, with spaces that weren?t considered in the initial design of the project?.
